A strong father–child relationship serves as a protective factor against substance use, delinquency, and other high-risk behaviors. Boys who report close paternal relationships are more likely to seek guidance during adolescence and demonstrate stronger resistance to peer pressure.

Studies indicate that consistent father involvement lowers rates of early sexual activity, substance abuse, and criminal involvement. Emotional closeness with fathers is also associated with greater resilience and healthier coping strategies during stressful life events.
